This ECA Community Engagement combines a screening of the award-winning short documentary Powerful Medicine: Simply Magic (2014) and an artist talk by the film’s director and star, Kevin Spencer. A journey of self-discovery and resilience, the film is told through the voices, faces and hands of incredible individuals who struggle with some of life’s difficult challenges. With the film as an anchor, this free event aims to bring together community members, parents, advocates, and organizations serving individuals with disabilities – with the goal of moving from conversation to action around issues of diversity, inclusion and equity for everyone, including those who are most vulnerable in our society.
Kevin Spencer is an artist, educator, researcher, consultant, and film producer, as well as faculty in the Special Education program at Carlow University (PA). He is a world-renowned Illusionist with dozens of accolades to his credit including 2015 International Magician of the Year and six-time recipient of Performing Arts Entertainer of the Year. He believes strongly in the power of the arts to impact the quality of people’s lives.
