With the support of two full-time special education teachers, CAPE students will create and perform an original ten-minute play in response to the question: Who’s going to save the world? Together, we’ll explore issues that matter and heroes who inspire, while building acting and storytelling skills in community. We may weave in some singing and dancing as they interest students and serve our story. Join CAPE and be a hero we need!

Half-Day and Full-Day campers alike will create and perform our story. Full-Day campers will gain additional practice with acting skills, work on visual art projects, and take daily trips to familiarize themselves with the ECA stage to prepare for their final Sharing session which will take place at 11:30 AM on Friday, August 12th. Full-Day campers are welcome to leave with guests who attended the sharing session on the ECA stage or stay after for a final afternoon of theatre games and celebration.

*This camp is specifically designed for 4th-8th graders who are neurodivergentt, have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, who identify as disabled, and/or who receive special education services at school. If your student is younger or older than this age range, but you know they would love camp, please reach out. We’d be happy to make an exception.

ABOUT CAPE:
We are a community of young performers with disabilities committed to artistic excellence, who create and perform our own original stories. We tackle all elements of performance — conceiving of our own characters, writing our own scripts, creating our own costumes, sets, and props, and mastering our blocking and choreography. Our teaching artists and mentors support us in our growth. They believe in us, we believe in ourselves, and we believe in one another.

DDA FUNDING:
Dandylyon Drama works closely with the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) which allows respite care for families. If you are interested in using your DDA funds, please email registrar@dandylyondrama.org for more information.

NANCY BITTNER SCHOLARSHIP FUND:
All ECA Summer Camps offer whole or partial scholarships, based on need. Tuition for The Heroes We Need is based on current hourly rates for DDA funding. If your family is not eligible for DDA funds and the price of camp is a barrier to participation, please complete an ECA scholarship application

As of May 8, ECA will no longer require masks or proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 lab test. All summer campers are strongly encouraged to wear masks and social distance inside the building. Please note that ECA COVID-19 policies are subject to change based on current information. We will share more details with all families in welcome materials sent by email in the weeks prior to camp.

ECA's Summer Arts Enrichment Camps are made possible with generous support from the Hazel Miller Foundation, ArtsWA, Nancy Bittner and Dennis & Lorna Lowenthal.
