Oumou Sangaré, treads a fine line between her attachment to the traditional music of Wassoulou, the region of Mali, and technological dislocation, gracing her fans with songs whose vital force was still intact and laying bare a heart that has remained as ardent as ever. With the release of her ninth album Timbuktu, named after the legendary city that faced extreme violence and hardship during the war in Northern Mali a decade ago, she has turned into an international world music phenomenon and activist.
