Discover the joy of spontaneous improv in a free two-hour workshop led by Impro Theatre, one of the nation’s most celebrated improvisational theatre companies, before their performance of Jane Austen Unscripted.
This interactive class offers participants a rare opportunity to work directly with the same performers you will see on stage later that evening, gaining insight into the creative process behind fully improvised, long-form theatre.
Designed for adults ages 18+, this workshop introduces core improv games and foundational techniques used to create spontaneous characters, relationships, and storylines without scripts or pre-planning. Participants will actively explore how improvised scenes are built in real time, while also learning how ensemble collaboration, listening, and physicality shape a full-length improvised play.
Additional attendees may attend the workshop as observers and take part in a closing Q&A with the artists.
Whether you’re new to improv or simply curious about how it all works, this workshop provides practical tools that deepen your understanding of what you’ll see on the mainstage. By pulling back the curtain on the art form, participants will walk away with a clearer lens to watch the performance, making the evening experience more relatable and engaging.
No experience is necessary! This workshop is open to adults (18+) — 15 active participants on stage and 80 observers in the audience. Those observing the class in the audience will have the opportunity to partake in a Q&A session after the session is over.
Tickets to Jane Austen Unscripted must be purchased separately. Participants are also invited to attend the Jane Austen Costume Workshop Series!
